Foot deformities in children (Part two)

Intoeing- Walking with feet turned inward

Intoeing is common during a child’s growth

There are three causes of intoeing that your doctor may identify:

  1. Curved feet
  2. Tibial Rotation
  3. Femoral Rotation

Curved Feet

Curved feet are caused by the position of the child before birth

Most children with curved feet improve without treatment in the first months, however, improvement can continue up to the first 3 years of life. Rarely, curved feet may become stiff, persist and require treatment with casts or splints. Special shoes do not correct it.

Tibial Rotation

Tibial Rotation is an inward turn of the lower part of the leg. This is a normal variation that is very common during infancy and childhood.

Splints, exercises, braces, or shoe modifications do not correct the rotation and in fact may be harmful. Legs with tibial rotation straighten without treatment during infancy and childhood.

Femoral rotation is a twisting of the thigh bones caused by an internal rotation of the foot. The cause of femur rotation is unknown. Femur rotation is more severe when the child is about five or six years old. Most children outgrow this issue by the age of 10. Shoe inserts, modifications, or braces do not correct this condition. They can be uncomfortable for children and may harm them while playing.

Good day, I am Arta, 14 years old. I just want to know why my legs often hurt. I can say that every day I feel pain in my legs. Why does this happen, is it because of tiredness or something else? Have a good day

Hello! Pain in your legs at your age has several common causes, ranging from rapid growth pain to the more rare ones... You should visit an orthopedic doctor, who will examine your feet, may request X-rays of the feet... and after diagnosing will determine the treatment..

Hello dear, I have a 3-year-old son, but he has flat feet. My question for you is what should I do as a parent and is there a cure for this problem???

Hello dear parent! You need to visit an orthopedic doctor if there are flexible flat feet, then there's no need to do anything... let the boy grow up peacefully. Flexible flat feet is a variation of the foot, just as we have different skin colors or bodies of different sizes, there can also be feet of different shapes but within what we in medicine call normal..

Hello, I have a 2-year-old child and I've noticed that they have flat feet and I wanted to ask if this is hereditary

Sent by mirlinda , më 08 September 2014 në 06:19

Hello, madam! Flat feet (pes planus) also have a genetic factor in their appearance. For example, if the parents have it, it might also appear in the children, but not necessarily..

Hello, I have a 30-month-old daughter but 3 days ago her left leg, when she walks, turns outward in an arch (meaning not in the direction of the knees) and she walks as if it's injured but when I touch her she doesn't show any sign of pain and doesn't express pain. With respect

Hello, I also have a 10-year-old daughter whose knees turn inward when she walks, from the knee down they are very open. At the age of 6, I took her to the American2 hospital where a Turkish doctor told me that by the age of 8 or 9 they would correct themselves just by looking at her without any examination, but she has not improved. Can someone tell me what to do, thank you
