Ozone Therapy, an excellent alternative medicine (Part One)

What is ozone?

Ozone is a molecule with three Oxygen atoms. Its name comes from the Greek word “ozein” meaning “to smell, to have an aroma”. Ozone was discovered by a German chemist (Ch.F. Schonbein) in 1848. At room temperature, it is a colorless gas with a characteristic odor (similar to that felt after thunderstorms, at high altitudes or by the sea). Medical ozone is prepared only from pure (medical) oxygen.

How does Ozone work?

Ozone has several unique characteristics that make it a powerful treatment tool:

  • Ozone causes red blood cells (erythrocytes) to carry more oxygen towards tissues. This way, normal oxidation of sugar is restored and the production of high-energy molecules (ATP) is increased.
  • It stimulates white blood cells (leukocytes) to produce more protective molecules (interleukins, interferon, TNF) to fight infections.
  • Increases the elasticity of erythrocytes, oxidizes and breaks down atherosclerotic plaques, widens small blood vessels. These properties are used to treat many circulatory diseases.
  • Ozone stimulates the body's antioxidant system, therefore many chronic oxidative stress diseases (Diabetes Mellitus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hypertension) can be controlled with ozone therapy.
  • Most microbes that cause diseases are anaerobic life forms. They do not have protective antioxidant enzymes, therefore they cannot withstand the attack of ozone.
  • The same explanation applies to the antineoplastic effect of ozone. It also reduces the side effects of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and cancer pain.
  • Ozone stimulates the body's healing processes, therefore it is useful in wounds that are difficult to heal (diabetic ulcers, varicose ulcers, gangrene, postoperative wounds, burns, fistulas, fissures, etc.)
  • Ozone is an excellent detoxifier. When sufficient oxygen reaches every cell, it begins to oxidize toxins formed over years as a result of life processes, pollution, wrong foods, and sedentary lifestyle! The body thus breathes in clean air and cleans itself from all toxins.
  • The anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect makes ozone quite useful in the treatment of many types of pain (headaches, back pain, joint pain, neuropathic pain, etc.).
  • Rejuvenation is a result of the increase of high-energy molecules (from aerobic oxidation of sugar) and the release in the brain of special chemicals; they can bring positive behavioral changes and increase enthusiasm.
Is this a new therapy?

In fact, ozone therapy is not a new therapy. It has been widely used to treat wounds during World War I and II. Devices that provided precise concentrations of ozone and ozone-resistant materials were invented in the 50s’. This gave a significant boost to research and widespread use of ozone in medicine. Ozone is very popular in countries like Germany, Russia, Italy, France, Cuba, Mexico, India, China, Turkey, etc.

Are there any side effects?

Ozone Therapy is safe. In a study done by the German Ozone Therapy Association, 644 therapists treated 384,775 patients, with a total of 5,579,238 ozone applications. Only in 40 cases were there side effects. Therefore, an incidence of 0.000007% per application. Ozone has been proven to be the safest therapy ever existed.

Methods of administering ozone therapy

Major Autohemotherapy (AHTma)

  • It involves taking a quantity of venous blood (50-100 ml) from the patient which, after being ozonated with the respective dose of ozone, is returned to them intravenously.
  • The number of sessions 10-20. Frequency 1-3/week
  • The dose increases every 5 sessions
  • Clinical improvement is seen between sessions 5 and 10.

Minor Autohemotherapy (AHTmi)

  • It involves taking a small quantity of blood (5-10 ml), which after being ozonated is injected into the patient intramuscularly. The mass of ozonated blood coagulates in the muscle creating a kind of autovaccine.
  • This application provides a general stimulation and activation of the nonspecific immunity.
  • Very useful in allergies and autoimmune disorders.

Hello: based on this publication, I have started using ozonated oil and in a few days (5), I am noticing an improvement. However, I would like to receive professional advice on how the wound should be treated (how to clean it, with what means, and how often the dressing should be changed).
With respect: Zefki Gashi

Hello Mr. Shefki. The wound is preliminarily cleaned with ozonated water, which is prepared by the ozone therapist and must be applied within 30 minutes
