"Vampire Therapy", autologous plasma therapy (Part one)

Very early in ancient times, people used blood as their food and later from mythology or various beliefs it was believed that drinking blood would help the body to regenerate, heal from various diseases or even rejuvenate.

The use of blood as medical therapy has been known since ancient times. Healers (folk doctors) used blood as medical therapy by injecting it under the skin in infected areas of the skin or even in those parts of the body where there was pain, it was used only as autologous therapy which means that the person's own blood was injected and many times the result has been positive, at that time they could not give a scientific explanation to the method whereas today it is scientifically explained this method is increasingly used as regenerative therapy in dermatology, also in other medical fields.

Otherwise called stimulating therapy, (in this specific case by using the patient's own blood) in dermatology aims to increase protective, healing and regenerative powers by activating the protoplasm, using autologous materials such as the patient's own blood. Through stimulating therapy, metabolism is increased, regenerative activities are enhanced, thus leading to skin regeneration.

This method is increasingly used in the field of dermatology to achieve skin regeneration, elimination of wrinkles, treatment of acne, treatment of scars, patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) and diffuse hair loss.

Today, this treatment method is also applied in our country, in specialized medical clinics.

Platelet-rich plasma therapy.

Blood consists of about 93% red blood cells (RBC), 1% white blood cells (WBC) and 6% platelets, all suspended in plasma.

In plasma therapy, about 20-60 ml of blood is taken from the patient and centrifuged, after centrifugation what is obtained is plasma and erythrocyte mass (red blood cells).

In the prepared plasma, the concentration of red cells is reduced to 5%, but they are of little use in the healing process, while the concentration of platelets is increased to 94%. This leads to a plasma super rich in platelets, at a much higher percentage than would be found in normal blood concentrations, respectively 1,000,000 platelets / ml of plasma.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is "autologous", which means it comes from the patient's own body.

Platelets are known as components of the blood coagulation system. When a blood vessel is damaged and bleeding occurs, platelets are activated and help blood coagulation.

Besides, every platelet is also a biochemical depot, regulator, signaling of growth factors that participate in tissue healing and regeneration in response to injury.

As an autologous preparation, PRP is safer to use than allogeneic or homologous preparations and as such, it is not possible to contract transmissible diseases such as HIV or hepatitis through it.

From Plasma Application, antibodies are not formed and in this way, the risk of the "graft versus host" disease is prevented.

Platelet-rich plasma acts in tissue regeneration through growth factors released by platelets after their degranulation. These growth factors improve physiological processes that contribute to tissue regeneration and healing.
