Eczemas (Part Two)

Hand Eczema

Hand eczema from the use of washing detergents

Today the use of various washing chemicals that are widely used in our homes is increasing, their indiscriminate use, without protective measures such as (wearing gloves while working with them) leads to the irritation or exacerbation of the skin, its redness and the appearance of what is called irritative eczema from contact with chemical products, in the first phase the skin is red, swollen and with small vesicles or blisters with serous fluid, where pruritus (itching) is present, this is the acute phase of eczema, then with the continuation of the use of these chemical products, the skin begins to dry, harden and thicken and cracks (skin cracks) may also form.

Also, what are called occupational eczemas from working with products and chemical substances, especially among construction workers, bartenders, hairdressers or people who work with these chemical products are increasing a lot.

Other eczemas are those that come from contact with various plants.

The treatment of this pathology consists in the application of softening emollients, the use of cortisone ointments and in the acute phase also systemic cortisone.

Diaper Dermatitis

Diaper dermatitis occurs as a result of contact with the diaper or irritation of the skin by the excretions or urine of children which in close contact with the skin irritates it and the skin reddens and often gets superinfected by bacteria or fungi that are more prevalent in that area, in some children generally during the teething period immunity begins to drop they become more susceptible to viruses and enteroviruses which are manifested with diarrhea which is usually acidic and irritates the skin a lot, in some other children this dermatitis occurs from the use of low-quality diapers and in some from poor hygiene.

Measures to be Taken

Diapers should be changed as often as possible especially in children who have these problems every time they defecate or urinate, they should be thoroughly cleaned by being washed with running water for every diaper change.

Generally pastes or emollients (softeners) that contain zinc oxide which has anti-inflammatory properties are used. And in cases when the skin is irritated, antifungal and antibacterial ointments are also used.
