Does blood change in spring?

There is a belief, "in spring blood changes".

Blood consists of plasma and the formed elements of blood ("blood cells").

Plasma consists of 90% water and 10% organic matter: (of which protein 7% and the rest amino acids, lipids, vitamins, hormones, coagulation factors, and various metabolites). It is in continuous dynamic equilibrium throughout life with the extravascular environment.

Erythrocytes are not true cells, as they lack a nucleus. Their function is to transport oxygen and after 100-120 days are eliminated to be replaced by new ones. They serve no purpose for the blood (only giving it the red color) because they are sacrificed for other cells of the body (erythrocytes do not use oxygen for themselves).

Leukocytes are true blood cells, but they only use it for transport. They serve no purpose for the blood. Their role is protective for the organism, they circulate in the blood for a few days (except for memory lymphocytes), leave the blood vessels to perform their function, and are eliminated.

Platelets are not cells, they are fragments of the cytoplasm of megakaryocytes and serve only the blood. They circulate for 8-10 days and are eliminated to be replaced by others. They are activated only when the blood vessel wall is damaged (together with coagulation factors), with the purpose of stopping hemorrhage, preventing blood loss that would have consequences for the entire organism (depending on the volume lost and its speed).

Erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets are called the formed elements of blood, by analogy with shooting targets, that once "they meet their end from the hits", are replaced by new ones, to continue the shooting.

These formed elements of blood, circulate in the blood, perform their duties, for the determined lifespan and are eliminated to be replaced by new ones and this continues for the entire life.

There is a dynamic equilibrium between the elements that are eliminated and those that replace them. The best example is the production of erythrocytes; every second 2.4 million erythrocytes are eliminated and just as many are released into circulation and this continues for the entire life.

It has no connection with the seasons, it is related to the maintenance of cellular homeostasis (constant number of cells).

Thank you for the information you provide us, for your reliability. It is nice to learn everything as much as we understand regardless of the field

I wanted some advice from you, my 10-year-old son has high thrombocyte levels above 800 1000 1200, all his tests have come back fine, is there treatment for this with you..

Hello Bajram, first, we evaluate ferritinemia, CRP, LDH, abdominal ultrasound. If there is an iron deficiency, this last issue is treated. Although very rare in young children, to exclude a blood pathology that increases platelets, genetic mutations are done: JAK2V617F, CALR, MPL. If one of them is positive, it is a blood disease and will be followed by a pediatric hematologist. If they are negative, at least in adults, we do a biopsy of the bone marrow to assess changes in the Red Bone Marrow. Treatment depends on the cause
