Hello,
I hope you are well.
I have a question and I would like your opinion, please.
I am a 32-year-old woman.
When I was 9 years old, I had my tonsils removed because of streptococcus.
A month ago, I had throat irritation that bothered me during the day and caused me odd dry coughs.
It felt like I was choking.
After visiting the doctor and getting tests,
My ASO was good, but my throat culture came back with hemolytic streptococcus and Staphylococcus aureus,
While my nose came back with staphylococcus.
I was treated with ceftriaxone intravenously 6 times, twice a day.
I stayed almost 10 days and then repeated the tests, and the infection came back as I had before,
But I don't have pronounced clinical signs,
For example, the cough I had, I no longer have. And this time the doctor only gave me some vitamins to strengthen my immune system for 2 weeks.
He recommended gargling with baking soda after every meal
And a "Marisol" spray for my nose.
And he didn't tell me to redo the tests after this treatment.
Even before I took the intravenous antibiotics,
And after taking the antibiotics, I didn't seem to have a problem when listening through a stethoscope,
I'm fine.
What do you think?
Should he have given me antibiotics since according to the tests I still have the microbes?
He told me I have pharyngitis and gave me just the vitamins as I mentioned.
He said there's no need for antibiotics.
I'm quite scared of streptococcus, which is why I had to have my tonsils removed when I was young.
Thank you in advance

Mariola:
First, the treatment scheme should have been prescribed according to the antibiogram, from which the most effective antibiotic against the bacterium is selected (this is the competence of your clinical doctor).
Second, the recheck should be done at a minimum of 21 days after the completion of the treatment scheme.
Third, You need to start a capsule vaccine to stimulate the production of antibodies against the pathogenic bacterial flora isolated from the microbiological analysis. Caution: protect young children.
I wish you a speedy recovery

Doctor, human, extraordinary, special. In 2010 I had severe acne... I was in my fourth year of university, I was so bad I was going to leave my studies. God sent me to Dr. Rexhepi. The doctor did tests, treated me, and cared for me as if I were his daughter, not only with treatment but also with words. Endless respect and gratitude for you, doctor
